Description
Prennek wooden bread boards are all handmade to a standard shape and size using a range of timbers; Oak, Elm, Beech, Sycamore & Cherry.
Size is approximately 55cm x 26cm. This can vary slightly as they are all made individually.
The Process
- Source tree, I only use timber from trees less than 5 miles from my yard. (Some are wind blown, naturally fallen, or have to be removed under licence because they are dangerous).
- All timber is milled at the Pennek off grid work shop / yard.
- Timber is stacked, left to naturally air dry for a minimum of two years.
- Wooden slabs are flattened, with router sled.
- Mark out template and cut out with jigsaw.
- Drill out and shape whole handle.
- Then hand shape edges, using a traditional draw knife.
- Sand and soften all edges.
- Sand top and bottom of board through four different grades.
- Water pop board, to raise the grain.
- Final sanding.
- Add Prennek brand logo.
- Apply 2 coats of food safe mineral oil over whole board.
- Apply 2 coats of oil / bees wax mix.
- Final check, Bread board complete – ready to add to the online collection.
